Lessons From AWS Part II: Is Open Source Lock-In Better?

In Section I, I drew comparisons between AWS and Walmart, and emphasized differentiation as the key constituent to compete with the 800-pound cloud brute. For over a decade, I be inflicted with held with the intention of open source is the antidote to vendor ponytail-in and dis-innovation. In Section II, I keep up with the intention of promotion, but with a caveat. Open source cloud platforms are arresting for the constant reasons Linux took hold, low cost entry point and application portability. But with competing initiatives from OpenStack, CloudStack and Eucalyptus, among others, and a bevy of software management tool providers, the question enterprises need to pledge as they consider confidential, broadcast and hybrid cloud options is, "Is open source ponytail-in better than AWS ponytail-in?"
